Job description

As a Manufacturing Engineer within the engineering team of NTS Drachten, you are the link between customer demand, engineering, and the shop floor. You design, analyze, and optimize our production processes and production tools, ensuring that what is designed on paper is actually manufacturable, repeatable, and affordable.

At NTS Drachten, we manufacture high-precision parts for customers in the semiconductor, analytical, medical, and high-tech industries. We work with small and medium series, challenging tolerances, and complex materials that are not always easy to control. This means that each new product is a puzzle again: what machining sequence, what clamping, what measuring method, and where is the risk?

Introducing new products (NPI) is an important part of your work. You assess drawings for manufacturability, advise engineering and customers on adjustments that make the product better or cheaper, and document the process including test methodology and PFMEA. After that, you remain involved during the scale-up to volume production.

You work in a compact organization where the lines are short. Operators, work preparation, quality, and engineering are close to each other, so an improvement you come up with can be on the shop floor next week. Your proposals for new machines, processes, tooling, and measuring instruments carry significant weight in investment decisions.

Furthermore, your tasks include:

• Translating customer requirements into efficient and manufacturable production solutions;

• Assessing drawings for manufacturability and advising engineering and customers;

• Developing and validating production processes, including test methodologies and PFMEAs;

• Identifying production bottlenecks and proposing concrete improvements;

• Designing and implementing new or improved processes and measuring instruments;

• Advising on the purchase of machines, tooling, and measuring instruments;

• Supporting production with prototypes and in scaling up to volume production.

Requirements

We are looking for an analytical and practically oriented engineer who feels equally at home on the shop floor as at the conference table, with the following background:

• A completed HBO education in a technical field, such as Mechanical Engineering or Technical Business Administration, or a comparable level of education and thinking;

• At least 5 years of experience in a technical production environment, preferably in machining or precision mechanical production;

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality assurance, and demonstrable experience with PFMEA;

• Result-oriented and proactive in identifying and seizing improvement opportunities, even if persuasion is required;

• Good command of the Dutch and English language in speech and writing, due to drawings, work instructions, and communication with colleagues and customers.
