Job Description

As a Business Development Engineer at NTS Optel you are responsible for developing, managing and growing existing and new (inter)national accounts. Your focus is to strengthen our position within the semiconductor, analytical equipment, healthcare and industrial markets in particular. You know how to find and connect these new customers to NTS Optel. The combination of long-term, intensive relationships with customers in combination with business development means that you can practice account management to the fullest extent.


In your job as an Business Development Engineer you visit customers, existing and new, at their national and international locations. You will be actively involved in lectures, conferences focussing on Optics. The location of this vacancy is Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

For our customers, you are the (technical) sparring partner and you proactively search for suitable solutions. During the development of the products, during transfer to serial production, but also for follow-up orders, you are the key point contact in all communication between NTS Optel and the customers.

In this role you report to the Commercial Manager at NTS Optel in Nijmegen.


Further tasks and responsibilities are:

  • Identifying Opportunities: Analysing market trends and (existing and new) customer needs to find potential areas for expansion or innovation;
  • Technical Solutions: Collaborating with engineering teams to develop and tailor products or services that meet client demands;
  • Relationship Building: Establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders to promote business objectives;
  • Sales Support: Contributing to the sales teams by providing technical knowledge during pitches and presentations, ensuring the proposed solutions are viable. Actively participates in (inter)national sales and network events and exhibitions;
  • Market Research: Conducting research to understand competitors and market dynamics, informing strategic decisions;
  • Project Management: Overseeing and actively involved in guiding calculation and project teams projects from conception to execution, ensuring alignment with business goals and client expectations;
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working with various departments, such as marketing, engineering, and finance, to align efforts and maximize results.;
  • Sales strategy: Provide direction to the strategic and tactical policy for the branch and for NTS Group.

Job requirements

• You have a technical Bachelor’s degree, preferable in Applied Optics;

• You have +5 years’ experience in working as an Sales engineer/manager in a high-tech environment, both with new customers and existing customers (ranging from startups to large businesses);

• You are decisive, pragmatic, hands-on and a team player;

• In addition, you are analytically and organizationally strong, customer-oriented and very solution-oriented;

• You are willing to travel to (inter)national customers;

• Good knowledge of English and Dutch, verbal and written
